California state budget crisis 2010

The 2010 budget proposals of California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has indeed confirmed that the problems of California state budget crisis will continue even in 2010 if the governor’s proposals are implemented and followed. The consent is unanimous that the present budget is a disastrous one and is sure to put California state in a renewed state budget crisis of 2010.

This unanimosity of this is also reflected in the Rasmussen reports public polls. In this January 19, 2010 polls 94% of the people consented that, the California state budget crisis is of a very serious nature. A 50% of the population also consented that California governor Schwarzenegger is performing poorly in handling the California state budget crisis. (for the full report of Rasmussen on California state budget crisis see http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_state_surveys/california/toplines/toplines_california_budget_crisis_january_19_2010 )

So how bad is the California budget crisis 2010? The total seriousness of this issue can only be understood if the different propositions of governor Schwarzenegger are evaluated and seen in the light of a recovery from recession. This is important because the recovery from recession issue is the only factor that should predominantly control the policies of the budget.

The nature of the California state budget crisis 2010 lies in the self contradictory promises made by the governor. For instance, the governor on one hand talks of prioritizing child education, and on the other hand, he simultaneously proposes elimination of programs to help the underprivileged kids of California from receiving education. This is only one instance of such contradiction by Schwarzenegger.

An evaluation of all such contradictions by Schwarzenegger is essential in understanding the full nature of California state budget crisis 2010.  Governor Schwarzenegger’s policies are all so twisted and directed in the wrong direction that if the proposed budget is followed then the following problems will come into existence.

1.      A reduction of California school funding by 892.6 million dollars.

2.      A reduction of California medical eligibility and coverage.

3.      A reduction of SSI/SSP grant for the elderly and the disabled.

4.      A reduction of state worker’s salaries and work benefits.

5.      A reduction of funding for emergency fire suppression in California. Etc.

Thus it is evident that the proposed budget is not at all directed towards the welfare of the state of California and its residents. How can a budget that so seriously violates the perimeters of public welfare can help recession hit California from the California state budget crisis that begun in 2009.

The proposed budget does not create scopes for new jobs, increases the costs for education and health care and in the pretext of tax cuts and budget savings eliminates the essential beneficial state programs for the children, the elderly, the handicapped and the poor. There is no possible way out of the California state budget crisis if the propositions of governor Schwarzenegger are followed in the state of California.

The state budget 2010-11 is about to be implemented from the month of June. The budget will be implemented only after the consent of the California state legislature. Only time can tell what are the dimensions that California state budget crisis will attain in 2010/11.
